Occaisionally I like to wander down to the Grand Haven State Park and visit the beach during the week to see who I can meet. On this warm July afternoon I met Aaron and Kori DeHaan and their two adorable children Cameron (5 yrs), and Natalie (1 1/2 yrs.) from Grand Rapids. They were having so much fun playing in the water and spending time together as a family. Thank you for sharing your children with me that day, and come back to Grand Haven soon.

Okay, so I take my family to the beach on Sunday, August 3rd which was the last and final day of Coast Guard Festival 2008. We walk past these five guys wearing watermelon helmets, or you may want to call them head dresses. At any rate, they were taking the fun of Coast Guard to the bitter end by bringing watermelon to eat, and then carving out creative head pieces. They wore them all day! It was a show in itself to watch these guys from Brighton, Michigan. You guys should think about coming back for Winterfest if you like having this much fun! From left to right is: Brad Daavettila, Trent Daavettila, Eric Heltunen, Mike Wiitanen, and Aaron Kiilunen.

The Scottville Clown Band is always a favorite of so many in the Grand Haven area, but especially of my father. My dad has been following this band through until the end of the Grand Parade on Coast Guard Saturday for 30+ years. I thought it was time he had a photograph to show his dedication to this team of great musicians, and may I add great character! Thank you for all the wonderful memories for my dad. Your concert is something he looks forward to every single year. |

The week of Coast Guard 2008 started off with the arrival of the United States Coast Guard ships arrival on Monday and how beautiful they are. Thank you to the men and women of the U.S. coast Guard and their families for your service to our country.
